Advantage Description

The pure composition is colourless or white, but commercial samples are often greenish or blue owing to the presence of iron-containing impurities. It is readily soluble in water, producing an alkaline solution. They are used in cements, passive fire protection, textile and lumber processing, refractories, and automobiles. Sodium silicate is stable in neutral and alkaline solutions. In acidic solutions, the silicate ion reacts with hydrogen ions to form silicic acid, which when heated and roasted forms silica gel, a hard, glassy substance.
