L-Aspartic acid is white crystal or white crystalline powder; slightly acidic flavor. Dissolved in boiling water, slightly soluble in water, insoluble in ethanol, and soluble in dilute hydrochloric acid and sodium hydroxide solution. Aspartic acid, also known as L-aspartate, is thought to help promote a robust metabolism, and is sometimes used to treat fatigue and depression. Aspartic acid plays an important role in the citric acid cycle, or Krebs cycle, during which other amino acids and biochemicals, such as asparagine, arginine, lysine, methionine, threonine, and isoleucine, are synthesized.
It is used in medicine as ammonia detoxicating agent, hepar function accelerator or fatigue refresher. And it can also be used as biochemical reagent, medium and intermediate in organic synthesis.
