Lubricant oil additives are chemical components or blends. They are solid particles that are dissolved or suspended in the lubricants to enhance their functions. Lubricant oil additives are organic or inorganic compounds that constitute between 0.1 to 30 percent of the total volume of the lubricant. The quantity of additives required depends on the type of machine you are using and the function of the lubricant. 

Petrochemical engineering is the upstream industry of lubricant oil additives. Required raw material for its production are base oil, polyisobutylene, olefin, heavy alkyl benzene, etc.  

In terms of function, lubricant oil additives can be divided into antioxidant, antiwear agent, extreme pressure additive, clearing agent, dispersing agent, foam inhibiting agent, etc.

China is a giant country in motor vehicle production and industry manufacture, the lubricant oil additives demand was very huge in recent years. From 2013 to 2017, China's lubricating oil additives market demand has been rising steadily in the past five years and reached 881,000 tons in 2017, increasing by 4.3% from a year earlier. 

From the perspective of application fields, lubricant oil additives are mainly used in motor vehicles field with the share of 68%, including heavy-duty engine oil, passenger vehicles engine oil and other automotive oil.  

On the other hand, the enterprises for lubricant oil additives production are mainly based in South China, which accounted for 53.9%.
