Domestic Titanium Dioxide Market
The price increases of domestic titanium dioxide producers seem to be endless since September. Sichuan Lomon finally raised prices of titanium dioxide for ¥500/tonne before Mid-Autumn Day, which enhanced the tenth price rise trend in domestic TiO2 market. Currently, most TiO2 producers are positively trying to make former initiatives firm. With the recovery of operation rate, the tight supply of TiO2 in the market is released a little bit, but most first-class producers are still tight in spot supply.
Recently, there are rumors saying that some TiO2 producers in Shandong province may be temporarily shut down due to environmental factors, which may break the balance of market supply and push the price rise. However, most producers run steadily and stick to the market trends.
The current prices of titanium dioxide (September 23): Lomon (R-966), CNY13300-14000 ($2040-2147) per metric ton; Main market price (Rutile Tio2), CNY12000-13600 ($1840-2086) per metric ton; First class manufacturers (Rutile Tio2), CNY12800-13600 ($1963-2086) per metric ton; Second class manufacturers (Rutile Tio2), CNY12000-12800 ($1840-1963) per metric ton; Main market price (Anatase Tio2), CNY9000-10000 ($1380-1534) per metric ton.

In the European titanium dioxide market, the contract price discussions for the fourth quarter are slow to get underway. Some players said that they are in the early stages of talks, while others said that they are due to start negotiations imminently. Several producers have recently issued separate price rise proposals of €150/tonne to take effect either during Q3 or from 1 October, depending on agreement validity. The current contract price of titanium dioxide in the Europe is 1.96-2.25 EUR/kg.
In the US titanium dioxide market, the sales volumes are expected to continue to diminish until pre-spring buying begins in 2017, deepening sentiment that pigment prices will remain flat at least through the end of the year. The inventories are already beginning to grow after a steady summer and a spring 2016 coatings season that saw demand improve by an average of 5% over the previous spring. The current contract price of titanium dioxide in the US is 1.23-1.30 USD/lb.
Asia market prices of titanium dioxide were assessed at a rollover in the week, in the absence of spot trade in the region. Meanwhile, most players have started on negotiations for Q4 contracts, where discussion levels have been at decidedly higher price levels compared to the previous quarter. The current market price of titanium dioxide in Asia is $2200-2400/tonne.
