A Glimpse of Global Titanium Dioxide Market (September 18)
In the European titanium dioxide market, proposed rises of €150/tonne are starting to be discussed, on producers’ margin recovery and certain ongoing supply restrictions, but early expectations are that typical low seasonality in the fourth quarter could moderate or hamper any possible price rises. Q4 price talks are slow to start in earnest, but some initial talks are underway or due to start shortly. The current contract price of titanium dioxide in the Europe is 1.96-2.25 EUR/kg.
In the US titanium dioxide market, a US TiO2 buyer suggested this week that prices may not increase, even by the first quarter of 2017, given continued supply overhang. No buyers have suggested that fourth-quarter 7 cents/lb price efforts separately proposed by most of the US producers have any chance of being implemented before the end of the year. But even if those efforts are carried over into early 2017, as sources have suggested, excess supply could keep them from being implemented then. The current contract price of titanium dioxide in the US is 1.23-1.30 USD/lb.
Asia market prices of titanium dioxide were stable in the week, as market players in the region begin negotiations for Q4 contracts. In previous weeks, most TiO2 suppliers have announced intentions to implement price hikes of around $150/tonne effective in September and October 2016, or as contractual agreements allow. The current market price of titanium dioxide in Asia is $2200-2400/tonne.
