Tekni-Plex adds Belgian flexible packaging supplier Beyers Plastics to portfolio
Packaging technology company Tekni-Plex (Wayne, PA) has been on a shopping spree, acquiring nine companies in the past four years. Actually, you can make that an even 10—it announced today that it has picked up Belgian flexible packaging supplier Beyers Plastics (Puurs) from investment company Fame N.V.
Beyers will be integrated into the Tekni-Films business unit, which produces polyethylene (PE) packaging for the pharmaceutical, medical and other sectors.
Founded in 1970, Beyers Plastics supplies flexible packaging to most of the world’s top 10 pharmaceutical companies and other blue chip companies in various industries. The company offers Class 7 cleanroom extrusion and PE film converting services.
“The acquisition of Beyers Plastics allows us to expand our portfolio of cleanroom-produced pharmaceutical and medical flexible packaging products,” said Joe Horn, Senior Vice President and General Manager, Global, at Tekni-Films. “For the first time, we will have bag converting capability, as well as PE blown film extrusion. The acquisition supports our goal of expanding our offerings in the pharmaceutical and healthcare space,” said Horn.
Flexible packaging is experiencing notable growth across all market segments, according to the Flexible Packaging Association (FPA; Annapolis, MD). It represents approximately 19% of the $167 billion U.S. packaging industry, and is the second largest packaging segment behind corrugated paper and just ahead of bottles and miscellaneous rigid plastic packaging, said FPA CEO Alison Keane at the association’s recent annual meeting.
