Henan Jindan Lactic Acid Technology Co.,Ltd (“JINDAN”) announced on March 24, 2021 that it will invest RMB 300 million (around USD 45 million) to develop the project to produce biodegradable polyester and related finish products. The project expected to have an annual production capacity of 60 kt/a PBAT. And the biodegradable modified materials and biodegradable products can be further produced by blending with PLA, starch and other materials.

The project is expected to be finished on Sep 2022 and is located in Henan province of China.

JINDAN’s market development in PBAT market is to enrich the product line of degradable materials, and to use the existing starch and PLA products to modify and form products. On November 29, 2020, JINDAN issued a notice on commissioning of the lactide project.

At present, JINDAN is one of the few enterprises in China that can produce the key intermediate of PLA, lactide, and then the production capacity of PLA and PBAT will be put into production, which will pave the way for modification. Modification and products are important directions to improve added value.
