On December 26th, 2020, Anhui BBCA hold the production penning ceremony of the 2nd phase of its project of 300 kt/a PLA and 500 kt/a lactic acid in Bengbu City, Anhui province.
The project covers 300 thousand square meters, has a total investment of around 4.88 billion RMB (around 750 million US dollars).
With glucose as the main raw material, the high-yield lactic acid bacteria and new separation and purification technology, the company expects the production capacity of 500 kt/a high optical pure lactic acid.
The 300 kt/a PLA project uses high optical pure lactic acid as the main raw material, adopts the ring opening polymerization process of lactide with independent intellectual property rights to prepare polylactic acid, builds a new lactide preparation workshop, polymerization workshop and supporting public and auxiliary projects, and constructs a production line with an annual output of 300 kt PLA. The PLA could be widely applied in packaging, injection molding, textile, 3D printing and other industries.
The 1st phase of the 300 kt/a PLA project has started since the openning ceremony on September 26, 2020. The current annual production capacity of Anhui BBCA for PLA is 30 kt/a. By the end of 2021, the annual production capacity is expected to reach 100 kt/a. By the end of 2022, it is expected to reach the production capacity of 300 kt/a.
On December 22, 2020, on the second China Bio based materials industry development conference held in Bengbu, the chairman of Fengyuan Group Mr. Li Rongjie
At the second China Bio based materials industry development conference held in Bengbu on December 22, Li Rongjie, chairman of Fengyuan Group, said: "We work to use technological innovation to provide the materials and chemical raw materials required by the human society and reduce the use of oil and coal. We are providing our “Bengbu solution” to control the white pollution.” Mr. Li says after 20 years of deep cultivation and exploration, the PLA new material research team of Fengyuan Group has fully mastered the whole industrial chain production technology from corn to lactic acid, then to the fermentation, extraction and polymerization of PLA, as well as downstream PLA fiber and PLA plastic products manufacturing.
