Anti-corrosion coatings are widely used in modern industry, transportation, energy and marine engineering. They can be divided into conventional and heavy type anti-corrosion coatings according to the corrosion resistance and use requirements.
Conventional
anti-corrosive coatings can be used in the general conditions to protect the metal
from corrosion and help extend the service life of non-ferrous metals; heavy
anti-corrosion coating is a kind of anti-corrosive coating that can be applied
in a relatively harsh environment and it usually has a longer protection period
than conventional anti-corrosive coatings.
Anti-Corrosion Coatings Developing with
Multi-Functions and Multi-Directions
There are more
than 1000 varieties of anti-corrosion coatings in China, the traditional
classification by resin are epoxy, epoxy asphalt, asphalt, chlorinated rubber,
chlorosulfonated polyethylene, polyvinyl chloride, perchloroethylene, urushiol
resin, ethyl silicate, high chlorinated polyethylene, polyurethane,
polyurethane asphalt, phenolic aldehyde, and alkyd paint, etc.
In recent years, many modified resin anti-corrosion coatings with excellent properties have mushroomed on the market, such as alkyd resin modified polysulfide rubber modified epoxy anti-corrosion coatings and acrylic modified alkyd enamel used for railway passenger cars, and other anti-corrosive coatings like epoxy urushiol, urushiol silicon heavy anti-corrosion coating, etc.
At present, the
new generation of anti-corrosive coating system has gradually occupied the
mainstream of market. Environmental anti-corrosive coating, such as water-based
epoxy and water-based acrylic coatings, have come out one after another, and enriched
the varieties of anti-corrosive coatings.
Increasing Market Demand and Wide Applications
There are about one hundred manufacturers
in China producing anti-corrosion coatings which can be used in various
purposes.
At present, China's anti-corrosion coatings
are mainly used in chemical and petroleum industries, railways, roads and bridges,
metallurgy industries, power and energy industries, machinery and textile industries,
automobile, ship and container industries.
Chemical and petroleum industries has the largest
demand in anti-corrosion coatings, including oil field facilities, oil
pipelines, offshore platforms, steel structures of petrochemical plants, etc. At
the same time, construction and maintenance of railway and bridges are also the
key field of anti-corrosion coating application, in addition, industrial
products, automotive, marine industry are also the most potential markets for anti-corrosive
coatings.
Environmental Friendly Anti-Corrosion Coatings Are Becoming Popular
Anti-corrosive coatings in China are developing
towards high performance, high efficiency, low energy consumption and low
pollution. Some waterborne anti-corrosion coating production enterprises have adopted
the raw materials with low pollution for production. Producers have eliminated
the use of banned coating materials, and use the more environmentally friendly materials
in order to reduce emissions.
