2019 is the 64th anniversary of the birth of China's titanium dioxide industry, but the substantial development of titanium dioxide industry began in 1998. According to the preliminary statistics of Titanium Dioxide Branch Center of National Productivity Promotion Center of chemical industry and Yan Taiyun business, over the past 20 years, the total capacity of the industry has increased from 198000 tons / year in 1998 to 3260000 tons / year in 2018, with an average annual growth rate of more than 15%; the total output of the industry has increased from 140000 tons in 1998 to 2953800 tons in 2018, with an average annual growth rate of more than 16%.
China is also the world's largest producer of
titanium dioxide with both sulfuric acid and chlorination processes. As early
as 2015, Fu Yijiang, Deputy Secretary General of titanium
dioxide industry branch of China Coating Industry Association, said: on the
one hand, titanium dioxide industry should vigorously develop chlorination
process to make it mature as soon as possible; on the other hand, it should
constantly improve sulfuric acid process to standardize development with
stricter environmental protection laws and regulations. Chlorination technology
has its own advantages, but sulfuric acid technology will not be eliminated. At
present, sulfuric acid titanium dioxide will coexist with chlorination titanium
dioxide production technology for a long time because of its wider application
and market demand.
With the increase of production capacity, titanium
dioxide industry's position in the world is also rising. By 2002, the
industry's total capacity in China had reached 390000 tons / year, surpassing
Japan, which was the second largest titanium
dioxide producer in the world at that time; by 2009, the industry's total
capacity in China had reached 1.8 million tons / year, surpassing the United
States (1.5 million tons / year), which was the leading titanium dioxide
producer in the world until now.
According to the statistical data analysis
of the past 10 years, the capacity proportion of titanium dioxide in China is
also increasing year by year. By 2018, the total capacity of titanium dioxide
in China accounts for 40.1% of the world's capacity, and with the continuous
improvement of technology, the proportion will be higher and higher. One after
another, the real realization of the industrial transfer is that China's
titanium dioxide industry gets more and more recognition from the manufacturing
end, and the product competitiveness is stronger and stronger. The influence of
Chinese producers in the world is growing day by day, which plays a decisive
leading role in the price and other important trend indicators.
In the past 10 years, the actual production
of titanium dioxide in China has increased with the increase of production
capacity, which is mainly due to the rapid development of the main downstream
industries, such as coating, plastic, ink, etc. And such downstream industries
are not only limited to China, but also worldwide, and more and more
international customers come to Chinese titanium dioxide factories to ask for
samples and cooperation. In the future industrial structure of titanium dioxide
in China, the proportion of production of chlorination process will increase
steadily. With the wider application of titanium dioxide, more and more
personalized products will emerge as the times require, which is also a
challenge to the titanium dioxide industry in China. Indeed, for a long time in
the future, China's titanium dioxide industry will be stronger and stronger in
the continuous opportunities and challenges!
The achievement of remarkable achievements in
China’s titanium dioxide industry is entirely benefited from the sustained and
high-speed development of the domestic macro-economy and the benign trend of
the international market. Take the main downstream coating market of titanium
dioxide as an example: the total output of coating industry in 2014, 2015 and
2016 reached 16.48 million tons, 17.17 million tons and 19 million tons
respectively, and reached 20.41 million tons in 2017. China's coating
production accounts for 57% of the Asia Pacific region's coating production and
28.5% of the world's total, which has become a worthy core body of the world's
coating industry.

The export volume of titanium dioxide in
China is increasing year by year. In 2018, the export volume is as high as
908000 tons, accounting for 30.73% of the total national output.
According to the statistics provided by the
General Administration of customs, in October 2019, China's titanium dioxide
export volume was 79400 tons, 5.26% down month on month, and up 26.08% year on
year. From January to October 2019, the cumulative export volume of China’s titanium
dioxide was 820800 tons, an increase of 5.82% year on year. It is estimated
that the total export volume in 2019 will be more than one million tons, which
indicates that China's titanium dioxide is more and more recognized by the
world, and more and more fields will be made in China.
With the gradual maturity of sulfuric acid
and chlorination titanium dioxide technology in China and the gradual
introduction of customized products to the market, no matter at home or abroad,
in most fields of application, China's titanium dioxide products are not
inferior to international brands at all. The increase of market share reflects
the growing international competitiveness of China's titanium dioxide, helping
more international friends find more suitable titanium dioxide products.
