Sodium carbonate is an inorganic compound containing a sodium salt of carbonic acid and has an alkaline taste. It is also known as washing soda and soda ash. Sodium carbonate is primarily used as a cleaning agent, and can also be used as a common additive, bonding agent and electrolyte in the glass and brick industries.
China is the largest sodium carbonate producer in the world. The sodium carbonate output was seeing a steady increase year by year before 2017. In 2018, the output of sodium carbonate was 26,205,000 tons, decreased by 2.11 % from a year earlier.
From the export perspective, sodium carbonate export has slipped since 2015. In 2018, the export has seen a 9.21% YoY decrease and plunged to 1,380,000 tons, meanwhile the export value was 343.854 million dollars which was at the same level of 2017.
In China, Shangdong, Jiangsu and Qinghai are the major provinces producing sodium carbonate with the output at 4,384,700, 4,378,400 and 4,320,200 tons respectively in 2018.
