As a high-performance photocatalytic material, nano-TiO2 is one of the main research directions of sewage treatment agents. It is a kind of semiconductor material that can induce photo-oxidation and reduction reactions under the action of light.

Being a high-efficiency sewage treatment, TiO2 can destroy the bacteria and viral protein, thereby degrading pollutants and purifying the water. Moreover, nano-TiO2 can treat pollutants such as phenols, halogenated hydrocarbons and heterocyclic compounds effectively.

When the researchers sprayed TiO2 photocatalyst onto stainless steel, it turned out that the amount of organic carbon in the wastewater had been significantly reduced, and had obvious decolorizing effect for the wastewater from tannery. Another research studied the feasibility of nano-TiO2 combined with γ-irradiation in the treatment of papermaking wastewater. The results show that the combination can significantly improve the cleaning effect on wastewater.

On the aspects of air purification, TiO2 can effectively degrade the indoor and outdoor organic pollutants, oxidize and remove oxychlorides, sulfides and various odors in the atmosphere. Besides that, TiO2 can also degrade harmful gases such as HCHO, hydrogen sulfide, ammonia, etc.
